Baptism Weddings & Funerals

If you are thinking of having your baby baptised, would like to explore the Christian faith or have to plan the funeral of a loved one, your parish church is here to help you.

The image below is a link to the Church of England’s website which gives detailed and legal information, particularly surrounding marriage.  Please read on for a summary and some information about how things work here.

If you live in the parish or attend worship regularly at St Bart’s and would like your child baptised, we will be delighted to do this.  The church does ask that we carry out some form of preparation and this involves Fr Paul visiting you and explaining what Christians believe about baptism and the faith and the promises which parents and godparents have to take during the service.  You will also be encouraged to attend some Sunday worship because seeing the church in action is the best way to understand what she is all about.

Baptism for adults and for children over the age of around 12 will, in all but the most exceptional circumstances, be administered as part of Confirmation.

The image link below gives specific and legal information about having your wedding here.  But, broadly speaking, if you have a valid link or qualifying connection with our church and do not have a former spouse still living, then it will usually be possible for you to have your wedding celebrated here.

Funerals, relatives and next of kin of people who lived in the parish or worshipped here are very much encouraged to ask to have the funeral service in church.  Fr Paul is also available to take funeral services at local cemeteries and crematoria.  It is best to mention this to the funeral directors at an early stage or ask Fr Paul for guidance.
